This Monday the 2024 edition of the Met Gala took place. The theme of this year’s red carpet was: Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion (Sleeping beauties: the awakening of fashion) and the dress code: Garden of time, so many floral prints and botanical allusions were predicted beforehand, but what not many imagined was the design that Olivier Rousteing of the Balmain brand made for the South African singer and songwriter Tyla.

“The sensational Tyla brings the Sands of Time to life on the steps of the Met Gala 2024. Transforming the essence of time embodied by the simple hourglass, Balmain Atelier devised a unique application technique for the dress, which features sand studs. and microcrystals pressed directly onto a fabric molded by a plaster mold of the star’s own bodice,” the French luxury fashion house said on its Instagram account, where it shared images of Tyla wearing her sensational dress.

The dress was a work of art but its wearability did not stand out for its comfort. To climb the classic stairs of the Met, the singer needed the help of three people. A man held her and climbed onto her while two others made sure that the train of the sand dress was not damaged. The videos that show this situation did not take long to go viral on social networks.

Olivier Rousteing, designer of Balmain, also attended the event with a top made with the same technique.
