When Juliet Ortega (51) agreed to act in the play The strength of affectionnext to Soledad Silveyra and Osvaldo Laport, he imagined that it would be on the bill for most of the year, but to his surprise, it was only two months of performances. However, the same day that show was canceled, the actress received a call from José María Muscari to join Sexthe transgressive show that has been presented with overwhelming success at the Gorriti Art Center for five years.

After the departure of Romina Richi, Julieta went on to become the host of the show along with Diego ramos. In an intimate chat with Soonthe actress daughter of Palito Ortega and Evangelina Salazar He told how he landed there. “For Sex, Muscari called me directly and he did it the same day I was finishing The Force of Affection. It has been a very tough year for the country in general, in all areas and sectors, and ours is no exception to that. The theater is going through a very big crisis. We had premiered in January, at the moment of greatest uncertainty and already there I knew that The Force of Affection might not continue on the billboard all year. It is clear that José had that same date, because he has another play at the Multiteatro and he took advantage of it and the same day he called me,” Julieta said.

-How was that talk given?

-Muscari told me that he was looking for the new protagonist of Sex and that he wanted it to be me. He didn’t surprise me because he had gone to see Sex twice while he was doing Lost Mind and the first time, when I came out, I told him: ‘José, I think the show is fabulous and I would even dare to do it.’ But at that time I was far from that because Romina was there and I was in another work. I was in Perdida Mente for a year and a half and although I left, the play is still on. You can see that that stuck in his head and when he needed someone, he called me. I received it with great joy and great relief because beyond what I think of the show and my desire to work, I was a little worried about the work situation. Mine and the actors in general.

-Yes or yes, do you need to work or do you have a savings cushion to alleviate those downturns?

-Let’s see: I can support myself not because I have a savings cushion but because I have someone to turn to. I have parents who can help me, which is a blessing and at the same time it is not something I like to do. So, I have to be really needy to ask for help and I prefer to avoid it. I pretend that that help is not there and I always look for a way to stay afloat. Or I try to find ways to always be active and have my money to support my life.

Juliet Ortega

-Aren’t you cautious?

-Look, I was always a big spender, which is a very general characteristic of people in my environment. We are not people who know how to save, for the most part. We are not usually cautious and when we have, we spend. Therefore, I need to work.

-You said that the theater is in crisis but the Buenos Aires billboard is bursting with plays.

-Yes, there is a lot of offer but I can give you the numbers of one of the most important theaters on Corrientes Avenue and you would be surprised. A friend who is doing a work gave them to me and the numbers are terrible. If you go to AADET you are obviously going to see ten shows that are doing very well but then there are the others. People who were doing very, very well last year are doing less well this year, and those who recently debuted or who were only doing well are having a harder time. But hey, I’m not telling you anything new. You can also ask the owner of the restaurant and he will tell you something similar.
