She underwent “cat therapy” to overcome her fears before filming. Nyong’o accepted that she had to learn a lot about herself and the animal before she felt comfortable.

At the end of filming the film, the celebrity had fallen in love with the cat with whom she shared the set. She told this information to one of her friends, who was in charge of making appointments at shelters and adoption centers the next day. Nyong’o said she was not very convinced with her idea, but when she arrived at the shelter she saw what was a sign for her.

“There was a sign that said something like, ‘Aren’t you over your ex? Adopt a cat’. He was spot on,” Nyong’o recalled. The employees of Best Friends Animal Societya shelter in Los Angeles, paired Yoyo with the actress and after a couple of days of hosting she ended up falling in love with him.

“This cat is not going anywhere. I guess the best anecdote for when you feel poorly cared for is to take care of something. I took care of Yoyo and he opened my heart,” Nyong’o admitted.
