Infanta Elena has resumed her official activity, this Thursday, presiding over the ceremony of delivery of the XXXII edition of the Children and Youth Painting Contest for National Heritage Schools; whose purpose is to disseminate, among children and young people, the royal monuments, palaces and monasteries that make up the public body, through their plastic expression. The first-born daughter of King Juan Carlos I and Doña Sofía has been, in this way, in charge of giving the awards to the chosen children, with whom she has always been very close and affectionate.

It was around 7:00 p.m. when Infanta Elena appeared at the Royal Collections Gallery to kick off this event. She did it very smiling and friendly with the media gathered at the place expressly for the occasion, and she was dressed in a midi dress printed with geometric figures, to which she added a cream-colored blazer. In the same tone, Infanta Elena has worn the Chanel double flap handbag that belongs to the collection that she keeps and which he shares with his mother, Queen Sofía; and some high heels. As a complement, Infanta Elena has chosen the Bvlgari Monete necklace in gold with an embedded ancient coin, and matching earrings.

The last time that Infanta Elena had a role on the agenda was in 2021, when she, curiously, presided over some school awards. Since then, it is true that the mother of Felipe Juan Froilán de Marichalar and Victoria Federica has attended ceremonies or presentations, but always privately. A dynamic that brought with it the coronation of Felipe VI. The arrival to the throne of the current King represented a significant transformation in the structure of the Spanish Royal House. Thus, many of those who had been considered members of the institution were reclassified as the King’s Family, which implied not only the loss of certain privileges, but also of their roles within the institution.

Be that as it may, today was not the only event scheduled on Infanta Elena’s to-do list these days. On Sunday, it is expected that the sister of King Felipe VI presides over the Charity bullfight that dates back to the time of Felipe II, when the King ordered that a bullfighting celebration be held every year, the proceeds of which would go to the General Hospital, which cared for patients whose poverty prevented them from affording any treatment. After various vicissitudes throughout history, the first Great Extraordinary Charity Bullfight took place in 1856. Since then, this event has been one of the most notable in the bullfighting calendar.

The reason for the return of the infamous Elena to the official agenda after three years of institutional absence It is due, beyond the fact that both acts are closely linked to his career and his tastes, to the absence of his sister-in-law, Queen Letizia, this week. Doña Letizia is in Guatemala on a cooperation trip together with the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (Aecid).

The wife of King Felipe VI will remain in the Central American country located south of Mexico for the next three days. There, Letizia is expected to learn about the humanitarian work and the investments that Spain makes in the country, in matters such as support for children, youth or gender equality, among others; with special emphasis on “indigenous people descended from the Mayans”, who form a large demographic mass and face greater vulnerability.
