Amanda Miguel It is one of the great emblems of the Latin ballad, the one that today everyone calls “iron music”.

The Argentine artist, who has had an artistic career for 45 years, is preparing her trip to Medellín to be part of Plancha Fest, next to José Vélez, Tormenta and Luis Ángel, in the middle of the Flower Fair.

Just released the album It’s mein which she recorded 10 folk songs and was chosen by Spotify as an Equal Ambassador. The singer spoke with EL COLOMBIANO about this moment in her career.

What feelings do you have about your next show at the Flower Fair?

“I am very excited to have been invited to this concert on August 2nd, which is my father’s birthday, so it will be a day to remember. I am very happy because I will be going to the most beautiful city in the world, which is Medellin.”

Why is the so-called plank music still valid?

“The music of the plancha has become all the rage and fashionable because the music of today has lost a lot of meaning, it has lost its romanticism, now they are songs with a lot of rhyme, but you don’t know what they are saying. They are fun songs, to dance to for a while, that cheer you up, but ballads are the music of love, which will never go out of style. In addition, we have the term ‘plancha’ that has already become established to refer to the genre.”

You are Argentine, you were naturalized in Mexico and now you live in the United States…

“I let myself go, I think that in life one has to let oneself slide, one does not have to be putting things in the wheel of life. I live here because the house in Mexico was tremendously large for me, my Diego (Verdaguer) filled it because he was a very complete man, a wise man, but now my husband is gone and I came to the United States, near my daughter.

It’s been a 45-year career…

“From a very young age I knew I was going to sing, from the age of four I knew what I was going to do. Now I continue working more than ever on my shows and in my company. I am releasing my album Soy yo de folklore latinoamericano, a true gem that we released on acetate. There are 10 jewels in tribute to León Gieco, Fito Páez and Piero, among others, with songs like Todo Cambia, Solo le pido a Dios, Soy Pan, Soy Paz, Soy Más and Balderrama.”

What is the distinction that Spotify gave you about?

“I was chosen as an Equal ambassador to represent women throughout the month of June on the platform with a selection of beautiful songs, including songs from all time periods.

I thank Spotify for the distinction. It makes me happy that women are given an important space on this great music platform, since female singer-songwriters deserve the same exposure as our male colleagues.

I congratulate my dear colleagues who have decided to follow the path of art, as well as all the women who, through struggle, talent and dedication, are excelling in countless fields. They are a source of pride for society, for Mexico and the world.”

The top of their songs

“I have songs of all kinds and I like them all, but I compare them to children, because there must be some children that one carries in one’s soul, right, and others that one says… if it weren’t for the fact that they are of the same blood (laughs).

“That’s how I’ll never love you, because it was the first song that opened the doors for me in an impressive way and because it continues to be the most important song of my entire career. It’s a hit, I started my career with it and it was an impressive spearhead. I can’t help but mention Él me mentió verdad, because it has been a banner in my life, but there are songs like A mi amiga, Dudas, Las pequeñas cosas, Mi buen corazón and Castillos, that make me feel very proud, it’s a legacy that my dear Diego left me.”
