The actor went over to the good side of the scale with his character in the brilliant ‘Furiosa: From the Mad Max saga’
Among the many qualities that have made ‘Furiosa’ one of the best films so far in the 2024 film year and a new lesson from the master George Miller, one may shine especially above the rest. This is none other than the interpretation of a Tom Burke who cries out for a spin off focused on his Praetorian Jack and that gives us some of the best moments of the feature film.
Burke, the good guy
After having delivered two very different roles in titles like ‘The Souvenir’ and ‘Mank’, Burke ended up moving to the good side of the scale in the prequel to ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’, but initially, The actor was not entirely confident when he thought about his opportunities. to get a role that, he believed, did not suit him very well.
This is what he confessed during an interview with GQ your doubt when he found out there was an opportunity to join ‘Furiosa’.
“I was like, ‘I’m not going to get that job, but wow, that sounds amazing. ’ Then my manager was like, ‘George Miller wants to talk to you. ’ And I was like, ‘When? What has he seen? Souvenir? ’ I mean, look, I’m proud of Souvenir, I’m proud of Mank, but I didn’t know what kind of person George Miller was. I should have known from his movies, but he wants the performance to be right.”
Of course, The first thing he did after getting the role and reading the script was something very actor-like.: pepper the director with questions to receive as much information as possible about your character and the world around him.
“I asked George a lot of questions. Where sleep? Where they eat? What do they eat? What do they do when they are not doing this? Who do I know? How many times have I been in a room with Immortan Joe? What are the parameters of this character’s world? And then we filled in a lot of details.”
And what about your experience filming with Anya Taylor-Joy? Burke has nothing but good things to say about her co-star, who she believes represents the best version of a method actress.
“She’s the best version of a method actress in that sense, because she still wants to be affected by her surroundings. She doesn’t disappear between takes and she doesn’t need everyone to call her Furiosa. She’s in the room with you. But then, action. And I’m not surprised. Your body doesn’t know you’re lying when you act if you’re doing it right. Your mind does, because otherwise, you’re crazy, but your body doesn’t know that and you have to make room for that. You have to be aware of that. Take care of yourself.”
