A new decade is always a reason for joy, but if it is also about to welcome a new member to the family, even more so. Prince Hussein of Jordan, eldest son of Kings Rania and Abdullah, has just turned 30, and it is the last birthday he celebrates before becoming a father. There are just a few weeks left until his wife, Princess Rajwa, gives birth to the couple’s first son (or daughter), which could mean a new heir to the throne of Jordan.

A possibility that is not yet confirmed because it depends a lot on whether the baby is a boy, something that is not yet known. It must be taken into account that, today, women do not have the capacity to hold the head of state in Jordan, so if it were a girl, there would be no option for her to succeed her father when the time came. If it were a boy, everything points to him being the next heir to the throne, once his father, who is the one who now holds that role, had so determined.

A role that, however, he has not always had. In fact, upon King Hussein’s death, it was the son he had with Queen Noor, Prince Hamzah, who was destined to succeed his brother Abdullah. However, the monarch decided to name his eldest son as heir in 2009, when Hussein was a teenager. Following this trend, if Hussein now has a son, it is natural that the future prince will succeed him when the time comes. A trend that would only change if he had no male children, in which case the line would probably pass to his brother, Prince Hashem, aged 19.

Although he is now a happily married man and about to become a father, the truth is that, in recent years, Hussein has been on the lists of the eligible bachelors of royalty, due to his position and his attractiveness. Today, the eldest son of the kings Rania and Abdullah He continues to arouse passions everywhere and has a very close relationship with his parents, especially with his mother, whom he adores.

Hussein is a prince of his time, with an open and cosmopolitan character, accustomed to dealing with people from different parts of the world. He currently holds the rank of captain in the Jordanian Armed Forces-Arab Army, in fact, he graduated in 2017 from the prestigious Sandhurst Military Academy from the United Kingdom, where he was able to meet Prince William of Wales, with whom he has a special friendship. We have been able to see them together on numerous occasions, in an attitude of complicity. In fact, he and Kate Middleton did not miss Hussein and Rajwa’s wedding in the Jordanian capital.

In addition to his military training, Prince Hussein studied at the King’s Academy in Jordan and graduated in International History from Georgetown University, where King Felipe VI also studied a master’s degree in International Relations.

Hussein is very aware of his role, and participates in numerous official events, not only in Jordan, but also abroad. What’s more, he has even acted as regent when his father has been out of the country. For him, the role of young people from his generation and the generations just behind him is very important, which is why he tries to promote different initiatives to foster talent and help young Jordanians.

In addition to this, Hussein is very concerned about the conflicts in the world. For example, in 2015, when he was barely 21 years old, he chaired an open debate of the United Nations Security Council on the role of youth in combating violent extremism and promoting peace. He then became the youngest person to chair a meeting of this body. Based on this, a global forum on youth, peace and security was organized in Jordan, which concluded with the adoption of resolution 2250, which is known as the Amman Youth declaration.

Aside from his institutional role, Hussein has a special passion for his family, his parents and his siblings, so now that he is about to become a father, it is likely that we will see him fully involved in this new role that will fill the entire Royal Family with joy.
