The Comptroller General of the Republic issued a ruling with joint fiscal responsibility for $89,828 millionagainst Medimás EPS —which has been in liquidation since 2022—, seven of its directors and Century Farma SAS —also in liquidation— for the detriment to public assets generated by the irregular management of the health system’s resources.

Medimás began its liquidation process by the Health Superintendency in March 2022 because it did not comply with the “capitalization promised since 2017” since it did not reduce the large number of complaints it was receiving from its affiliates.
Likewise, that entity indicated that “for every 100 pesos of debt, the EPS only has 3 cents to support it” and that it had liabilities of $2.3 billion and assets of $1.7 billion.
The irregularities found by the fiscal control entity revolve around the approval and payment of advances on behalf of $85,656,905,945 to contracting companies with weak financial structures and/or in ongoing liquidation processes, which were not legalized.
On the other hand, the fines of $4,106,500,292 which were paid with resources from the general social security health system.
And finally, the payment of medical services worth $65,111,318 to people who died between January 2018 and June 2020.
Due to these irregularities, the Comptroller’s Office ruled with fiscal responsibility for the total indexed value of $89,828,517,557. Among those declared responsible are Medimás EPS SAS, currently in liquidation, and two of its presidents, three administrative and financial vice presidents, the legal vice president and the treasury manager at the time of the events.
Finally, this entity notified that from the date of notification of the ruling and during the period established by Law 610 of 2000, those responsible for tax purposes will have the opportunity to present the corresponding resources.
