The family doctor of the former president of the Uruguay Jose Mujica will hold a press conference this afternoon at the headquarters of the Popular Participation Movement (MPP) to provide details of your illness.
This Monday Mujica announced that he suffers from esophageal cancer. Without giving many details, the former president assured that he “is very complicated” due to a pre-existing immunological disease – which he has suffered for more than 20 years – that prevents him from carrying out correct treatment.
For this reason, the former president’s family doctor, Raquel Pannone, He will give details of his illness this Thursday at 12:00 at the MPP headquarters. The doctor has been treating Mujica since before he was president of the Uruguay.
The former president’s illness was discovered through an endoscopy at the Casmu sanatorium, through a routine check-up, where the presence of a tumor in the esophagus was determined.
Meanwhile, Mujica explained that the tumor is localized and that they will surely treat his disease through radiotherapy. “They have done a checkup on me from all sides and the matter is localized, it is a cellular variant that almost certainly means that the treatment they are going to impose on me will be radiation,” he said yesterday during the traditional May 1 barbecue at the Quincho de Varela.

During his press conference yesterday, the former president assured that he is “quite well for what he has experienced” and said that “he is ungrateful” and “he should believe in God“, since “he is miraculously alive” and would have to “thank life.”
“How nice it is to be Uruguayan, because people called me with whom we have been politically in conflict and have had problems, and it is notable,” he said in reference to the calls from the President of the Republic Luis Lacalle Pouthe former presidents Luis Alberto Lacalle Herrera and Julio María Sanguinettiand the former senator and former leader of the Colorado Party (PC), Pedro Bordaberry.
