HIC: a five-star hospital
HIC: a five-star hospital

Opinion column by Víctor Castillo

In the midst of the great challenges facing our country and the uncertainty surrounding the health system, this week we received news that encourages us to move forward and reminds us that the effort is always worth it. The International Hospital of Colombia (HIC) has been awarded the Global Hospital Rating certification, awarded by the firm Statista and the prestigious Newsweek Magazine, a recognition of excellence in five key areas of quality.

To better understand the magnitude of this achievement, the recognition is comparable to the acclaimed Michelin stars in gastronomy, but in the field of health. In this case, it is about receiving care in a hospital with high standards of safety, quality, comfort and excellence in every aspect related to the patient’s experience in the services.

With this certification, HIC becomes a benchmark of excellence, a five-star hospital committed to the care and well-being of patients and their families. In addition, it ratifies the maturity of the institution that for many years has been in the constant search for innovation and continuous improvement of its services, making a difference in medical care and transforming lives.

All of these achievements have their own name and are the more than 5,000 collaborators that the organization has today. From the doctors, nurses to the administrative and support staff, who have contributed significantly to the success of HIC, one of the ten best hospitals in Latin America.

It is worth mentioning that the Global Hospital Rating has only been delivered in Colombia to two hospitals and that the areas that have been evaluated by experts worldwide include: patient experience and safety, innovation and technology, attraction of human talent , installed capacity and opportunity in attention to services.

The evaluation highlighted several initiatives implemented. Among them, the Planetree person-centered care model, the HIMSS EMRAN 7 certification, the highest standard in digital health in the world, the Corporate University for the training of our collaborators as a solid professional development strategy, more than 60 specialties available and adequate facilities to guarantee services to the community.

Without a doubt and with pride we can say that this recognition is the result of valuable work and a reminder that, in the midst of adversity, there is the possibility of growing and prospering. We choose to continue moving forward with determination or we are left dreaming of what we were able to achieve. Congratulations HIC family!
