The authorities are advancing investigation underway against Mayra Alejandra Zapata Gómez, a woman who circumvented the hiring systems of the Police and other public entities, obtaining million-dollar contracts such as general practitioner when his title was fraudulent, according to authorities.
But for the judicial authorities, the case of Zapata never ceases to surprise; When reviewing her hiring history, it is observed how this woman, who falsified her medical degree, managed to get hired in different public entities.
Some contracts were given for values exceeding 20 million pesos and others for amounts exceeding 3 million and all in open sources were awarded in the department of Atlántico, for to provide his services as a general practitioner.
In addition, the authorities verify a specialization in occupational solutions that Zapata from the Universidad del Norte would have, apparently, this document would be true, since the accused would have circumvented the al mater’s verification systems.
In the case of hiring in the Police health units, the institution failed to frequently renew Zapata’s contracts without verifying the validity of the diplomas presented.
“Within the framework of the verifications carried out through internal controls of the Health Directorate of the National Police, a series of inconsistencies were evident in some contracting processes of the Atlantic Health Provider Unit (Upres). Thus, it was determined that a health professional was not registered in the Single National Registry of Human Talent in Health (Rethus), a situation that generated an alert about the detailed contract”, explained at the time the Police Health Directorate.
For police sources, the situation carried out by Mayra is extremely serious when taking into account that she, without having academic training, prescribed drugs to patients, ordered examinations and treatments for the patients where she was hired.
After consolidating the evidence, the Prosecutor’s Office asked a judge of guarantees to issue an arrest warrant against Zapata, considering that he was a danger to society, a valid argument for the judge, who accepted the request of the prosecuting entity.
Mayra Alejandra was captured and presented before another judge, who ordered the fake doctor to be sent to a prison. Judicial sources confirmed a WEEK that this would be the first chapter of a story that would have other judicial nuances that would involve more people, in which it would be a feared modus operandi.
