According to the WHO “health and well-being should be considered intrinsic social assets, worthy of protection.” Without a doubt, an ideal that is permanently affected by a changing global environment characterized, among others, by various climatic phenomena, and instability in the economic, social and political orders.

In the midst of this reality, studies and research such as those of Machteld Huber, founder of the Institute for Positive Health (iPH), become relevant when she defines health as the ability of people or communities to adapt and manage physical, mental or social challenges. that arise in life (Huber et al., 2011).

Precisely based on this principle, which in itself represents a challenge, for several years Compensar has been working on strengthening its Comprehensive Wellbeing Ecosystem, a support model that integrates teams from the health and cash areas into care ( well-being) with activities that cover different components from the physical, emotional, spiritual and social.

“We seek to generate capabilities so that people learn to live with their health conditions, develop skills and be able to face the different challenges of life. In addition, we want to transform the culture of health care, promoting well-being activities that favor the various spheres of health. be,” says Jorge Guevara, manager of the Compensar Health Model.

Precisely seeking to benefit diverse populations, this model involves four environments as a way to transcend traditional office care, exploring new scenarios that improve quality of life, including: Elderly, Businesses, Vulnerable Populations, and Promotion and Maintenance.

In the Promotion and Maintenance environment, participants have multiple characteristics, from those who have not identified a specific health risk, to those who present a chronic condition (being self-employed) at the cardiovascular, oncological, musculoskeletal, respiratory, among others, who receive a support in the development of skills that complement your health and well-being interventions.

Two gateways to well-being

“Our members usually enter the Promotion and Maintenance program through two doors: one is spontaneous, and corresponds to users who visit our Comprehensive Wellness Centers to make use of the recreation and sports services, the other is the medical consultation, where The health professional suggests that the patient develop recreational and sports activities as part of their treatment or health intervention program; These users are received by a wellness professional in charge of designing a support plan and evaluating their self-perception of health and well-being as a starting point,” explains Guevara.

In this way, with around 300 activities available (swimming, dancing, physical conditioning, arts and many more) users complement their health checks at the different Compensar Comprehensive Wellness Centers, located at its headquarters Calle 94, Centro Mayor , CUR Av. 68, Calle 220, Autopista Sur, Suba, Cajicá and Chía, among others.

These plans are reviewed regularly by the wellness and health team, which is responsible for analyzing indicators of frequency of participation, adherence to activities, continuity and self-perception of well-being, thus ensuring that each person receives the necessary support to achieve their goals. .

Well-being that you see and feel

The progress of the implementation went from impacting 9,500 people in the first year (2021), to just over 52,700 in 2023. Hence, the results of the most recent analysis carried out by Compensar in the population that participates in the Promotion program and Maintenance, between April 2021 and August 2022, are conclusive: from a statistically representative sample of 4,113 people, it was evident that 7% of users improved their self-perception of well-being and health (from negative to positive), likewise, the 85% maintained a positive self-perception. A decrease in the need to use health services was also observed in the group of people without specific risk, going from an average of 43 services per year, before the program, to 29 services a year after participating in it. Equally significant case for the group of patients with cardiovascular conditions, whose need to use services decreased, going from 77 to 52 annual services, demonstrating how the integration of health and well-being activities act as a protective agent.

“In the immediate future, at Compensar we hope to continue contributing to the improvement of the quality of life of members through the strengthening of our Comprehensive Wellbeing Ecosystem, in its different environments. We are convinced that the way to achieve this is to generate awareness that allows people to move in order to complement their health activities with well-being activities or well-being activities with health activities,” concluded Jorge Guevara, manager of Modelo de Salud. of Compensate.
