With the aim of improving the quality of health care in Middle East and North Africathe Colombian multinational Keralty SAS and Burjeel Holdings of the United Arab Emirates signed a strategic alliance to create “AL KALMA”, a joint venture that promises to offer cost-efficient health solutions in the region.

The agreement was signed in Cartagena de Indias in Colombia, and was attended by Mohammed Abdullah bin Khater, ambassador of the United Arab Emirates in Colombia; Shamsheer Vayalil, Founder and Chairman of Burjeel Holdings; and the leaders of Keralty, Joseba Grajales and Emilio Herrera.

AL KALMA, which means “united for health and well-being”, will debut in Saudi Arabia. The joint venture will offer integrated primary care, risk management and mental health services, taking advantage of the Saudi healthcare market’s shift towards a primary care model. It will later expand to the United Arab Emirates and other countries in the region, with the goal of serving almost 30 million patients in the next decade.

The joint venture will be managed from a newly created holding company in the Abu Dhabi global market, with an equal 50% share between Keralty and Burjeel Holdings. The expansion will be carried out by evaluating each market and adapting services to local needs.

For his part, Shamsheer Vayalil, Chairman of Burjeel Holdings, stated: “This project contemplates comprehensive well-being, from prevention to disease control and care.to improve services and patient outcomes at a local and personalized level.”
