Fury reacted in the ruling party after the opposition refused to support a replacement for the deputy Mercedes Bulnes in the Ethics Commission of the Chamber of Deputies and Deputies. The congresswoman is undergoing treatment against cancer.
It was a proposal to replace, on said commission, the independent representative of the Broad Front bench by the deputy Patrick Rosasalso independent and member of the same sector.
The initiative required a three-fifths majority, however, votes against the opposition made it impossible.
Bulnes revealed two weeks ago that was diagnosed with cancer and that he started his chemotherapy treatment.
Upon learning of this slam of the lower house door, the parliamentarian commented: “It had to be voted on because given my illness I cannot attend Parliament for at least two or three months. When my replacement is rejected, the Ethics Commission will have difficulties working”.
They accuse “inhumanity”
The rejection did not go down well with ruling party legislators, who aimed their darts towards the right.
“The right refused to replace deputy Mercedes Bulnes on the ethics commission, who was on medical leave for cancer treatment. She required 3/5 of the vote. It was requested – out of humanity – to reconsider and they refused. It is unpresentable, incomprehensible and inhuman”, criticized the Frente Amplista Andrés Giordano.
“The unlimited misery of the right (…) In practice, they demand that the deputy attend for the duration of her treatment,” said Daniel Manouchehri (PS).
“One has seen many things in Congress but the level of smallness and inhumanity that the right has reached is truly extreme“I hope, if you have dignity, you apologize to Deputy Mercedes Bulnes for the action you have done,” said Jaime Naranjo (PS).
