The Montería Personería issued an alert due to the critical occupancy of beds in the city’s hospitals and clinics, exceeding 95%. The situation worsens with the confirmation of 20 cases of dengue, two of them in minors who are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Representative Luis Giovanni made an urgent call to local health authorities to strengthen the implementation of guidelines and protocols aimed at the prevention and care of patients with respiratory and vector-transmitted diseases, such as dengue.

“It is vital that immediate measures be taken to prevent the situation from worsening, especially with the arrival of the rainy season that could increase dengue cases,” said Giovanni.

Of the 10 Health Providing Institutions (IPS) that reported their data, all show a bed occupancy greater than 95%, which puts at risk the ability of the health system to respond adequately to new emergencies. This high occupancy not only affects dengue patients, but also those with respiratory diseases and other conditions that require hospitalization.

The Ombudsman has urged the authorities to review and improve existing contingency plans. “We need coordinated and effective action to ensure that all patients receive the necessary care. “The authorities must reinforce the protocols for the prevention and control of dengue and other diseases, and ensure that the IPS have the necessary resources to face this crisis,” Giovanni added.

The increase in cases of dengue, a disease transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, is particularly worrying. The sub representativeHe highlighted the importance of awareness campaigns so that the community adopts preventive measures, such as eliminating mosquito breeding sites in their homes and surroundings.

In addition, he asked citizens to seek immediate medical attention if they present symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, pain behind the eyes, muscle and joint pain, and skin rashes.
