(CNN) — Harvey Weinstein, the powerful Hollywood producer whose downfall was a symbol of the #MeToo movement, has been moved from the Mohawk Correctional Facility in Rome, New York, to the prison wing of Bellevue Hospital (BHPW), according to online records and his attorney.

“He is in Bellevue for medical reasons,” Weinstein’s lawyer, Arthur L. Aidala, told CNN this Saturday.

Aidala told CNN that Weinstein is still expected to appear in Manhattan Supreme Court next Wednesday after the New York Court of Appeals overturned a sex crimes conviction against him on Thursday, CNN previously reported.

BHPW, which works with New York’s infamous Rikers Island jail, “houses men who require medical or psychiatric treatment,” according to the New York City Department of Corrections.

Next Wednesday’s appearance is scheduled for May 1, at 2:15 p.m., before Judge Curtis Farber, according to a spokesperson for the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.

Harvey Weinstein accusers want new trial

When Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein was found guilty of two sex crimes in February 2020, the conviction was hailed as a historic moment in the #MeToo movement.

Now, more than four years later, the New York Court of Appeals ruling overturning that conviction shakes communities of sexual assault survivors, particularly the more than 100 women who have accused Weinstein of assault and harassment.

“This today is an act of institutional betrayal,” said actress and activist Ashley Judd, who was one of the first women to publicly accuse Weinstein of sexual harassment, at a UN event for workplace safety. . “Our institutions betray survivors of male sexual violence.”

The complainants who spoke to CNN on Thursday echoed Judd’s frustration with the appeals court decision. Some expressed gratitude that Weinstein was convicted and sentenced to a lengthy prison term in a Los Angeles court on similar charges.

“This is a very sad day for countless women who suffered at the hands of a serial predator,” said Jennifer Siebel Newsom, the wife of California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who accused Weinstein of rape and testified at the Los Angeles trial. .

“Harvey Weinstein is a serial predator and rapist,” she said. “The bravery of the women who came forward ensures that, regardless of what happens in New York, Weinstein will die in prison.”

Weinstein, 72, has maintained his innocence and denied any non-consensual sexual activity.
