Dua Lipa delves into the “feud” between Drake and Kendrick Lamar on “SNL”

(CNN) — Dua Lipa connected the dots of rappers Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s latest round of “shooting” (a shooting is the attack one rap artist launches at another in a song) during a “Saturday Night Live” segment.

In her hosting debut this weekend, Dua Lipa jumped right into the “feud” as she played a local cultural critic named Wanda Weems during a sketch of “https://twitter.com/nbcsnl/status/1786974076793229765“.

“Hey, these shoots are getting intense,” Lipa said, appearing in front of a map of photos showing Drake and Lamar connected by red string pinned to the wall behind her.

While trying to explain the real-life feud to cast members Heidi Gardner and Mikey Day, who played the morning show hosts, a funny Lipa said she found an important “clue” in Lamar’s song “Euphoria.”

“When Kendrick describes Drake as Canadian, it’s because Drake is from Toronto,” he said, as if it were some big reveal. (Indeed, the rapper is from Toronto).

He added that in Drake’s song “Push Ups,” released last month, he “questions Kendrick’s manhood, saying he wears a size seven shoe.”

The segment was inspired by recent tirades dropped by the two artists, following Lamar’s stinging lines about Drake and J. Cole in his verse on the Future and Metro Boomin track “Like That.”

Since then, Drake and Lamar have exchanged barbs on several subsequent songs.

They have not always been at odds. In 2011, Lamar appeared on Drake’s song “Buried Alive Interlude” and collaborated once again in 2012 on Lamar’s “Poetic Justice.” The long-running feud dates back to 2013, when Lamar first took aim at Drake and other rappers on Big Sean’s song “Control.”

Lipa did double duty on “SNL” over the weekend, serving as host and musical guest. Maya Rudolph will host the next episode with Vampire Weekend as the musical guest.

“SNL” airs on NBC at 11:30 pm ET/8:30 pm PT.
