Noelia Voigt resigns as Miss USA due to her mental health

(CNN) — Noelia Voigt, who was crowned Miss USA in November 2023, announced that she is resigning from her position, explaining that the decision is aimed at prioritizing her mental health.

“I know deep down that this is just the beginning of a new chapter for me, and my hope is to continue inspiring others to stand strong, prioritize their mental health, advocate for themselves and others using their voice, and never be afraid of what the future holds, even if it feels uncertain,” he wrote on Instagram.

Voigt, of Utah, succeeded Miss USA 2022, Morgan Romano of North Carolina. She was the first Venezuelan-American woman to win Miss USA, according to her statement.

As a contestant, in November Voigt spoke about the importance of her roots during the final round of questions and answers when asked what she would contribute to the Miss Universe Organization, and promised to connect with diverse communities across the United States.

A spokesperson for the Miss USA Organization told CNN in a statement Monday that they support Voigt’s decision to step down and that “the well-being of our champions is a top priority, and we understand her need to prioritize herself at this time.” ”.

The organization said they are reviewing plans to “transition responsibilities to a successor” and will soon announce the new Miss USA.
