Netflix confirmed the production of the Peaky Blinders movie, one of the most acclaimed series in recent years

Netflix confirmed the production of a peaky blinders moviethe series that garnered millions of fans around the world and established itself as one of the most successful on the streaming platform, which also announced that the feature film will star Cillian Murphy in his iconic role as Tommy Shelby.

The actor, recent Oscar winner for his acclaimed work in Oppenheimer, will once again play the character he played in the six seasons of the original BBC production that became popular around the world since its arrival on Netflix.

The development of the Peaky Blinders movie project began some time ago, and although initially the idea was that the creator of the series, Steven Knight, would be the director, it was finally learned that he will serve as screenwriter, while it will be Tom Harper –who directed some episodes of the first season– who will be directing.

The producers are Caryn Mandabach, Knight, Murphy and Guy Heeley, and the film will be made in association with BBC Film.

While plot details and additional casting are being kept under wraps, Knight revealed in a statement to Deadline that The film’s story would take place during World War II.

Director Harper said of the project: “When I first directed Peaky Blinders over 10 years ago, we didn’t know what the series would become, but we did know there was something about the alchemy of the cast and writing that seemed explosive. “Peaky has always been a story about family, so it’s incredibly exciting to reunite with Steve and Cillian to bring the film to audiences around the world on Netflix.”

The series Peaky Blinders began airing in 2013 on BBC Two in the United Kingdom, and Netflix added it to its content in 2014. The series made the jump from BBC Two to BBC One in 2019, after its fourth season won the BAFTA for Best Drama. In total, the show lasted six seasons and ended in 2022.
