The death of Jaime Carmona, member of Los Claveles de la Cumbia continues to impact his followers and the musical environment. His bandmates, along with the owner, Cesar Cordoba, appeared on ‘El Reventonazo de la Chola’ to express their pain at his departure. On June 11, the musician known as ‘El Tayta’, was shot dead by hitmen in a restaurant in the Independencia district.
After a few days of the unfortunate event, the group leader shared details of the last thing he spoke with the interpreter. He remembered how they started conversations and highlighted his talent, which is why he decided to hire him.
“I met him in a nightclub in Lima Norte, I liked the way he sang, we cast him and with him we did the song ‘Yo no te menos’. He was a happy person, eager to get ahead and very introverted, a dancer,” he said on Ernesto Pimentel’s program, on Saturday the 15th.
The owner of the cumbia orchestra also mentioned that Jaime Carmona was aware of the threats against him and even sensed that they wanted to make an attempt on his life. “He did know that they were threatening him. He told me ‘Boss, I have some problems’”Córdova added.
The music entrepreneur revealed that his partner sensed his death and that he tolerated a dangerous situation.
“Last Friday we were talking on WhatsApp and I kind of already had a feeling. I even know that he had told another colleague that he did not want any tribute, totally familiar, and that is what we have done,” concluded the leader of Los Claveles de la Cumbia.
The murder of Jaime Carmona is under investigation by the National Police of Peru. Initially, it was thought that his death could have been motivated by extortion or quota collection.
