Without Bob Dylan, the Beatles would not have tried marijuana: “Ringo left that room strange” – Anecdotes

>Paul MCCARTNEY revealed a few years ago, during an interview on BBC Radio, what it was like the first time the members of the Beatles came into contact with marijuana. The icon of the legendary band spoke about one of the group’s classic songs, “Got to Get You Into My Life”, which, precisely, had its origins in that first experience with marijuana. The song, originally released on the group’s seventh full-length studio album, 1966’s “Revolver,” was based on it secretly at McCartney’s own choosing.

“’Got to Get You Into My Life’, lor what we had to put into our lives, apparently, was marijuana. Until we stumbled upon marijuana, we were drinking. “We were introduced to weed when we were in the United States, and it blew our minds,” Paul McCartney began by explaining.

“Exactly what happened is we were in our hotel suite, maybe in New York, around the summer of ’64. Bob Dylan turned around with his roadie, the kind of person who is more than a roadie: an assistant , a friend, a partner… He had just released ‘Another Side of Bob Dylan’ and we were drinking, as usual, having a little party,” the artist detailed.

“We ordered some drinks from room service: whiskey and coke, and French wine was our thing back then. And Bob disappeared into one of the rooms, we thought maybe he’d gone to the bathroom, but Then Ringo came out of that room looking a little strange. He said, ‘I’ve just been with Bob and he’s got some marijuana!’ And we said, ‘Oh, what’s it like?’ And he said, ‘Well, the ceiling is moving, coming down.’ And that was enough.” McCartney recalled.

“After Ringo said that, the other three of us jumped into the room where he was Dylan, and he gave us marijuana from a joint. We were expecting something instantaneous, so we just kept huffing and puffing and saying, ‘It’s not working, is it?’ And suddenly, it was working and we were laughing, laughing at each other. I remember George trying to escape, and I was running after him. It was fun, like a cartoon chase. We thought, ‘Wow, this is amazing,’ the musician recalled.

“And so it became part of our repertoire from then on. How do we get the marijuana? To tell you the truth, it just appeared. There were certain people you could get it from, you just had to know who there was,” The ex-Beatle explained how they got the substance.

So this song is my ode to marijuana. It was something that came into our lives and I thought it was a good idea to write a song. Only I would know he was talking about marijuana. “Many years later, I told people what it was about, but when we made the album, I was alone, I took a walk, I didn’t know what I was going to find,” Paul confessed.
