In a press release, Monica said, “Claudio wanted to show the world how beautiful Patagonia is and the possibilities that existed for vacationing there. He wanted to mobilize tourism in that area. “I remember that he told me about the rivers of Hornopirén, where he rafted; also, the Tagua Tagua Park with its imposing mountains and the lagoon with ancient larch trees. In addition, he told me that he was impressed with the Pumalín Park, in the Province of Palena, The story of Douglas Tompkins caught his attention and he admired the legacy this man left,” he said.

Monica said that her son’s love for Patagonia may have been born when he was a teenager, since he made a trip there at the age of 15. “Together with his older brother, they traveled to the south of Chile, it was a backpacking trip, where they hitchhiked and slept in tents. They traveled the south for an entire summer, and I think that’s when he fell in love with this area,” he pointed.

His love for Patagonia was so strong that he even bought a piece of land in Villa O’Higgins, where he left a house half-built, which Monica is going to finish. “He told me that it was his place of rest, ‘Mom, that’s where I disconnect, I find myself, and I love its people, they are simple, kind and affectionate,'” she concluded.
