China will raise retail prices of gasoline and diesel starting Friday based on recent changes in international oil prices, China’s top economic planner announced Thursday.

Gasoline and diesel prices will rise by 210 yuan (about 29.47 U.S. dollars) and 200 yuan per tonne respectively, the National Development and Reform Commission announced in a statement.

Under China’s current pricing mechanism, prices of refined petroleum products are adjusted based on changes in international crude oil prices.

China’s three largest oil companies – China National Petroleum Corporation, China Petrochemical Corporation and China National Offshore Oil Corporation – and their oil refineries have been instructed to maintain oil production and facilitate transportation to ensure stable supplies, the commission added.
