The renowned guitarist of Rage Against The Machine, Tom Morello, has released his new single, Soldier In The Army Of Love. After the band retired from the stage for good last January, Morello has wasted no time moving forward with his own personal projects.
This song is part of his next solo album, his first in rock, the title of which is still unknown. Furthermore, it represents a special topic, since He has the collaboration of his son, Roman Morello, who is only 13 years old, on the guitar. Not only does Roman play on the track, but he also co-wrote the song with his father.
Tom Morello first announced this single in a social media post on June 12. “I am excited to announce that Soldier In The Army Of Lovethe debut single from my first album as a soloist in rock, comes out on June 28th!” wrote the guitarist. “It was co-written with my son, guitar prodigy Roman Morello, and is already a generational anthem of Morello rock.”
Although Soldier In The Army Of Love It was officially launched today, Morello has been performing the song during his current European tour. The song debuted at its presentation at the Belsonic festival in Belfast, Northern Ireland, the same day as the announcement on social networks.
Morello as a soloist
Morello had already tried out what was a solo project in 2003 under the name The Nightwatchman. But his music was closer to country, with a prominence of acoustic melodies; greatly influenced by his and his friend Bruce Springsteen. He is now debuting in the genre that has seen him grow the most as an artist: rock.
The guitarist had created several albums exploring rock, electronica or hip-hop, but all in collaboration with other artists. The last one was The Atlas Underground Floodreleased in 2021, is Tom Morello’s third solo album and a follow-up to his previous project The Atlas Underground Fireand, also from 2021.
His European tour
In addition to his work in the studio preparing this next album, Morello has been very active on stage, currently performing a European tour, Power to the PeopleThe setlist includes songs from Rage Against the Machine, his other band, Audioslave, and his first solo project, The Nightwatchman, as well as some songs from his last two albums.
Beyond his own performances, Morello also joined his musical hero Bruce Springsteen on the stage in the month of April, where they played two songs together.
