The franchise of Happened yesterday? It is one of the funniest movies to come out of Hollywood and, therefore, it has been very successful. That is why we are here to tell you about the controversy that existed behind the third installment, which was going to be filmed in Tijuana and ended up recreating this part of Mexico in the United States.
The Hangover: Part III (original name of the tape) concludes the trilogy directed by Todd Phillips and starring Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach galifianakis and Justin BarthaThis latest installment of the franchise was released on May 23, 2013 in the United States.
The plot takes place two years after the events in Bangkok, when Leslie Chow (interpreted by Ken Jeong) escapes from prison taking advantage of a riot. Later, Alan Garner (Galifianakis) suffers the loss of his father after an unfortunate incident with a giraffe and decides to accept the help of his friends Phil Wenneck (Cooper), Stu Price (Helms) and Doug Billings (Bartha) to enter rehab.
During the trip to the center, the group is captured by a mobster, who entrusts them with the mission of finding Chow, who is the only one who knows the location of some stolen gold bars.
At some point in the film, the characters travel to Tijuana, where they must overcome numerous challenges and betrayals by Chow to complete their mission and save their friend Doug.
Thus, although at first the original idea -according to Daily Motion– was to be able to record in this part of Mexico, it was later revealed that apparently the local government would not have allowed it, so the production of the film had to come up with an alternative.
In this sense, Warner Bros. decided to record in Nogales, Arizona, and do a set there that evoked Tijuana. In the film, you can see that shops and signs in the area were changed to the Spanish language. There were also some markets, piñatas and people wearing different types of hats to try to resemble the compatriots.
According to Nogales International, Some of the locations used for filming were the United States Post Office in Nogales, which served as the police station in the film; Morley Avenue, Karam Parky and Park Street.
In Google Maps You can see that nowadays these places look very similar to those in the movies, but the letters of certain establishments are in English. It appears that it is a quiet place where the inhabitants spend their days normally.
