Lisa Manoban’s long-awaited solo comeback is here. The Thai star, known as Lisa from Blackpink, has released her new single Rockstar, along with a spectacular video in which he walks through the lively streets of Bangkok.
It is his first release as a soloist since he triumphed with the singles Lalisa and Money in 2021. And the first production under RCA Records’ new partnership with LLOUD Co., their own recently founded management company. Thus, Lisa and her fellow Blackpink members have taken control of their solo careers.
Rockstar: a vibrant and cultural video clip
The accompanying music video turns Lisa into a rock star. In the image elements of Thai culture are combined with an aesthetic cyberpunk, maintaining its position as a global star. They did not skimp on resources, as no less than one hundred dancers participated in the filming.
Lisa also paid tribute to local businesses in the area that had to close during filming, showing her respect for one of Bangkok’s most important economic zones.
And why has it revolutionized the internet? Well, because K-pop fans have one goal, and that is to break all possible records for their favorite artists. Lisa had already broken records recently: when the singer created a TikTok profile to announce a preview of the song, she gained a million followers in less than 2 hours. And now she does it again, surpassing one million views on YouTube in less than half an hour since the release of the music video Rockstar.
More than bandmates, friends
Although It has not been confirmed whether Rockstar will be part of an upcoming album or it will remain as just another single, Lisa and her companions are still active in Blackpink.
The versatile artist has already achieved significant milestones both as a soloist and in a group. In 2022 she was the first k-pop artist to win the MTV Video Music Awards and MTV Europe Music Awards for Lalisa. And along with Jennie, Rosé and Jisoo, they became the first K-pop girl group to headline the Coachella festival in California.
Besides, each of the Blackpink girls celebrate the success of their colleagues as if it were their own. With Rockstar, Jennie, Rosé and Jisoo shared excerpts from the music video on Instagram. Among the messages they left for Lisa, Jennie wrote: “Our damn rock star. You are so cool.” Meanwhile, Rosé added: “I’m obsessed,” and Jisoo asked fans to support the song.
A good year for the Blackpink girls
The most popular K-pop girl group in the world couldn’t be in a better place. With the girls releasing solo songs, each under their own label, fans couldn’t be happier.
