Authorities announced that in less than three months, the capital of Tolima has registered more infections than during the 12 months of the previous year.

The Secretary of Health of Ibagué, Liliana Ospina, announced the most recent report of Dengue cases so far in 2024 in this capital, which continues to increase considerably, which is why the alert continues among the municipal authorities. .

According to the official, in less than three months the total number of cases that occurred during the previous year has already been exceeded, which demonstrates the complex situation that is being experienced with this disease.

“We have 4,128 cases, we exceed the total number with which we closed 2023 in which we had around 4,000 cases and the mayor has asked that we reach the entire community so we are doing the ‘Bye Dengue’ campaign, making a presence in different sectors of the city.

Likewise, he pointed out that of the six probable deaths, three were ruled out, two are being analyzed and one was confirmed to be due to Dengue, which corresponds to a child under six months old.

“The first death was already confirmed at the end of January, the delay is due to a histopathological study by the Public Health Laboratory, but also a panel of experts to determine whether it was caused by Dengue or not and we have two patients under study.”

For his part, regarding the request made to the Ministry of Health, he stated that a statement on the issue will be announced soon, in order to know whether or not this process can be carried out in the city given the peak in cases that is registered.

“Mayor Johana Aranda is going to speak out in the coming days on this issue, they have tried to make specific arrangements with the National Government in order to take some complementary measure and we hope to give a statement on that issue.”

In figures: 59.13%, corresponding to 2,441 cases, have been without warning signs and 40.36%, equivalent to 1,666 cases, have been and 21 serious cases.
