the Canadian Canacol Energy reported another discovery of natural gas in the municipality of Pueblo Nuevo, department of Córdoba. This is the Pomelo-1 exploratory well, which began drilling on February 19.

According to the company, the well reached a total depth of 12,276 feet on March 3, 2024 and found 96 feet of vertical depth of gas, with an average porosity of 21 percent within the main objective of the Ciénaga de Oro (CDO) reservoir.

The CDO reservoir was drilled over a 48-foot interval and connected to the existing flowline to the Betania substation. The well is producing with a downhole sensor at the Jobo gas treatment facility.

The well started with a production rate of 4 million cubic feet per day (mcfd) for 6 hours, with a shock of 21/128″. Subsequently, the production rate was increased to 6 mpcd and 8 mpcd for 6 and 24 hours, respectively.

The well was ramped up to a rate of 10 mpcd with a 30/128″ choke, and is now producing at the Jobo gas treatment plant at a controlled rate of 8 mpcd.

Canacol Energy is currently mobilizing the platform to drill the Chontaduro-1 exploration well, located about 3 kilometers north of the discovery of Pomelo.

The target of the Chontaduro-1 well is the CDO sandstone reservoir, with a secondary target within the Porquero sandstone reservoir, both of which are productive in the area.

This well will be drilled before the first week of April 2024 and will take approximately 3 weeks to drill and complete.

The new exploratory well that Canacol Energy will drill is called Chontaduro-1.

Canacol Energy’s plans in Colombia during 2024 include drilling four exploration wells, acquiring 85 square kilometers of 3D seismic to add new reserves and production, and identify new drilling prospects.

Furthermore, to optimize production and increase natural gas reserves, the company plans to drill up to five development wells, provide new compression and processing facilities as needed, and perform producing well workover operations in key gas fields.
