DECLARATION OF THE IX GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF ASSOCIATES OF THE UNION OF HISTORIANS OF CUBA

The IX General Assembly of Associates of the Union of Historians of Cuba met at the Havana Convention Palace on March 26 and 27, 2024. At this meeting, an assessment of the organization’s performance during the last mandate was made, elected the new national leadership for the period 2024-2028 and the work projections for this new period were defined. This was a meeting enriched by the interventions of delegates and guests representing various institutions.

Scientific and editorial activity, the protection of cultural heritage, the communication of history, the teaching of history, the training of historians, the improvement of associates and internal organizational activity focused the debates in five working commissions. The results derived from the exchange constitute lines of action for the work of the UNHIC and a contribution to addressing these problems at the national level.

Throughout these days, the centrality of History as an essential discipline to actively interact with the complexity of social life has been reiterated. In this sense, the Union of Historians of Cuba assumes the responsibility that corresponds to it as continuity and representation of professionals dedicated to this field of social sciences. Thinking about the country in its current coordinates requires a revolutionary commitment to the future of the country and within such a challenge, the professionals of historical science in its various branches must occupy a leading role. We ratify our support for the leadership of the Revolution.

Cuba currently faces complex circumstances. The values promoted by the Revolution face the consequences of the genocidal intensification of the policy of economic blockade and financial and commercial persecution of the United States government, the communication war, the attempts to subvert the political and social order of the country and platforms promoting cultural colonization. History constitutes a primary combat terrain in this area and from the knowledge of science, UNHIC and its associates participate in the current ideological battle.

It is also essential to raise our voices at this time to condemn in the strongest terms the genocide that the State of Israel commits against the Palestinian people. The Dantesque images transmitted daily by the media express the asymmetries of a world in which peace is a chimera and poverty, marginalization and exclusion continue as the basis of very regrettable phenomena, which commit us to continue in the fight. for the future of humanity.

Historians express our rejection of any form of terrorism and send our condolences to the Russian people, recently victims of a terrorist act against innocent people.

In tune with the Martí, Fidelista and Marxist principles that we defend, the Union of Historians of Cuba reaffirms its commitment to the destinies of our heroic people, with the emancipatory purposes inherent to the process of national construction conceived in this land with enormous sacrifices and blood. of many compatriots. As Martí, Mella and Fidel pointed out to us, we will continue fighting for a better world. Overcome!.
