Hundreds of University of Alabama students gathered around the Government Plaza fountain Wednesday night, witnessing dozens of their peers being baptized.

The area was flooded with students following the Unite Bama event that took place at Coleman Coliseum, where more than 5,500 students gathered to hear from Christian speakers and worship leaders.

As the night rounded out, organizers told students they’d be holding baptisms off campus and everyone was welcome to come and participate.

“It was so crowded people were climbing trees, it felt like a moment that came straight out of the Bible,” said UA freshman Sophie Hill.

A few well-known faces were present at the fountain offering baptisms, including Jonathan Pokluda, Madison Prewett Troutt, and Grant Troutt.

“You could feel so many people’s lives being changed,” said UA freshman Kaitlin Griffin.

The Unite event has taken place at several other universities since 2023, and is happening next at the University of Georgia.
