As part of the process of territorial strengthening and the commitment to speed up the delivery of responses to people searching for their loved ones in the south of the country, the Search Unit for Persons Reported as Missing (UBPD) appointed its new regional coordinator for the departments of Huila, Caquetá and Putumayo.
The new coordinator, Andrea Jiménez Silva, is a business administrator, specialist in Financial Management and human rights defender, with more than 20 years of experience. Among her achievements, the work with peasant communities and victims of armed conflict through the Surcolombiano Observatory of Human Rights, Peace and Territory stands out.
“There are challenges related to the regional search plans, the way they are being executed and the interest in being able to innovate and make the search more proactive, to deliver the results that the country and families require. “We need victims of disappearance and searching families to have the voice they have been demanding for so long,” said the coordinator, recognizing that the implementation of these plans, with a territorial and participatory approach, is one of the main challenges of her management in the south.
According to the universe of missing persons constructed by the UBPD, in Huila, at least 1,535 people were disappeared in actions related to the armed conflict. Search requests in this department reach 500.
Finally, in Caquetá, 4,400 missing people and 895 search requests are registered; and in Putumayo, 724 search requests and 4,000 missing people.
