The Minister of Defense, Luis Petri, upon instructions from President Javier Milei, launched a key diplomatic mission to NATO.

Luis Petri kept meetings with leaders of the NATO military alliance (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) in the city of Brussels, Belgium, where the organization’s headquarters are located.

The first of these meetings took place with the objective of operationalizing the approval process so that Argentina can acquire the category of “global partner” of that organism. Luis Petri met with Mircea Geoanadeputy secretary general of the organization.

“I met with the Deputy Secretary General of NATO (NdR: acronym in English). I presented the letter of intent that expresses Argentina’s request to become a global partner of this organization. “We will continue working to recover links that allow us to modernize and train our forces to NATO standards.”the official published on his X account.

The meeting was positive, some sections were spoken in Spanish and the letter of intent transmitting the request from President Javier Milei to increase Argentina’s commitment to the most developed countries in the world, in line with its pro-Western outlook that it has expressed since the inauguration.

In the conversation, Petri conveyed that the new government’s first foreign policy decision was to reversal of entry into the BRICS blocwhich make up Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

Among the topics that were addressed, the possibility that Argentina can participate and cooperate together with NATO in peace operations, in cyber defense, the fight against disinformation and maritime security, all topics that dominate global security.

Furthermore, there was talk of deepening the joint training and education programs.
