The National Unit for Disaster Risk Management, UNGRD, orders and implements new mandatory requirements for current operators to supply drinking water to the communities of the department of La Guajira in an equitable manner.

“We are renewing and transforming the way the water distribution system is managed in La Guajira with the operators that are currently contracted by the entity, through compliance with the standards established for the transportation and supply of drinking water,” he highlighted. the deputy director (e) for Disaster Management, Luis Carlos Barreto.

He pointed out, “the lessons learned have given us extensive knowledge about the process and the variables that have negatively affected the distribution of water in La Guajira, which is why we managed to organize the department. We began this work with the socialization of circular 022 of April 2, 2024 on the control and certification of tank vehicles for the transportation of drinking water.”

In this sense, the Unit presented the new water distribution plan, which will be channeled from the departmental government, that is, the spokespersons and traditional authorities of the Wayuu communities, and the mayors’ offices must report to the Government of La Guajira the needs for the supply of the liquid. This information will be contrasted with the historical data of the benefited territories,” said engineer Barreto.
