The Attorney General’s Office demonstrated that Elkin José Bermúdez Guerra, alias ‘Turbo’, was part of the paramilitary structure that perpetrated the crime of three Kankuamo indigenous people, recorded on October 16, 2003, in the rural area of ​​Valledupar, Cesar.

The investigation led by a prosecutor from the Specialized Directorate against Human Rights Violations showed that alias ‘Turbo’ and other former members of the Northern Block of the extinct United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia arrived at a plot, intimidated Ernesto Feliciano Maestre with firearms. Arias, they tied him up, wounded him with a knife and shot him.

Subsequently, they moved to two other properties and attacked Pedro Nicanor Arias and Francisco Escobar Montero, causing their deaths. This criminal action corresponded to a pattern of indiscriminate violence promoted by paramilitary structures against the Kankuamo.

Given the forcefulness of the evidence against him, alias ‘Turbo’ accepted his responsibility for the events and submitted to an early sentence, in accordance with the parameters of Law 600 of 2000 (former Accusatory Criminal System). In that sense, a Valledupar Criminal judge sentenced him to 25 years and 8 months in prison for the crime of homicide of a protected person, and imposed a fine equivalent to 5,500 current monthly legal minimum wages.
