This Tuesday, April 23, “World Book Day” will be celebrated and for this the Popular Chamber of Booksellers Association (ACPL) has planned a series of artistic and cultural activities in coordination with the Metropolitan Municipality of Lima.

The Secretary of Education and Culture of the ACPL, Sergio Montañez Ferrari, reported that the objective of this activity is to promote the importance of books and reading in the community and especially as a basis for the education of children and young people.

He explained that this day will begin at 11 am. with a great artistic-cultural parade through the main streets of the historic center of Lima, organized by the ACPL in coordination with the Deputy Management of Education, Culture, Recreation and Sports of the MML and the “Lima Lee” program.

In this contest there will be a competition representing characters from Peruvian and universal literature. The parade will have as its starting point the Jr. Amazonas Book Fair with the participation of the institution’s associates. The bands of musicians from the MML and the “Andrés A. Cáceres” school in Comas will participate. In addition, delegations of students from the schools “Arturo Jiménez Borja”, “San José Artesanos”, IE N° 1038 “María Parado de Bellido”, the dance group “Carnaval de Congalla-Huancavelica” of the UNMSM, groups of stilt walkers and youth batucada Immediately afterwards, at 12 noon, an institutional ceremony will be held in the Sala Alzedo – Teatro Segura with representatives of the Municipality, the “Lima Lee” program, as well as the Economic Culture Fund, the House of Literature Peruana (CASLIT), National Library of Peru (BNP) and Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM). The awards ceremony for the literary characters contest will be held there.

CONVERSATION ABOUT THE BOOK

At 3 pm the discussion “The book and the promotion of reading” will take place in the ACPL Community Library at the Jr. Amazonas Book Fair. The speakers will be the director of the National System of Public Libraries of the BNP, Alex Alejandro Vargas; the teacher and cultural promoter, Paolo Astorga; Professor José Antonio Mezagil and a representative of the Editorial Fondo de Cultura Económica.

Later, at 5 pm, the “Visiting Book” will take place with the participation of a delegation from the House of Literature, who will present their production and a cultural artistic dynamic.

Finally, at 6 pm the dance “Tunantada” from the Barrio Centro La Juve de Muquauyo will be presented as part of the closing ceremony, toast of honor and sharing, directed by the president of the ACPL, Pedro Vicente Cruzado.

As is known, “World Book Day is a commemoration promoted by UNESCO and celebrated every April 23 in more than one hundred countries to promote reading, the publishing industry and the protection of intellectual property and copyright. It is a symbolic day for world literature, since that day, in 1616, the writers Miguel de Cervantes, Inca Garcilaso de la Vega and William Shakespeare died.
