Given the detection of a population increase in the South American lobster, preventive measures are carried out to control the plague and mitigate its impact.

The authorities of the Ministry of Digital Inclusion and Productive Systems and the Agri-Food Health and Quality Service (SENASA), together with the municipality of Capayán and teams from the Cuyo region and the government of La Rioja, work in an articulated manner to monitor the movement of swarms of locusts detected in the affected areas of Telaritos, Capayán department.

In this framework, intensive monitoring is progressing and chemical control applications are being carried out, in order to minimize the impact of the pest and cut its reproductive cycle. This insect does not affect human or animal health, but it does feed on plant material, so permanent surveillance and monitoring is carried out to prevent the formation of swarms or swarms of locusts. These detected foci allow mitigation actions to be carried out to prevent their growth and dispersion.

Recently, SENASA, through its permanent surveillance system, recorded climatic conditions that predispose the population increase of the pest, such as wind. However, low temperatures, the detection of outbreaks and adequate control could contain its development, which is why the implementation of controls in early stages is coordinated, in collaboration with the provinces and municipalities.

The Minister of Digital Inclusion and Productive Systems, Juan Cruz Miranda, thanked SENASA for the inter-institutional management and plant protection actions defined in the National Lobster and Tucuras Program. These measures are designed to prevent the formation of floods in the province that affect crops and natural vegetation.
