The provincial Secretariat of Environment and Control of Sustainable Development, dependent on the Government of Chubut led by Ignacio “Nacho” Torres, began the 2024 Environmental Promoters Program in different parts of the provincial territory.
In this framework, a virtual meeting was held led by the Secretary of Environment and Control of Sustainable Development, Juan Rivera, with the participation of communal authorities, young people who have joined this year, and the support of both Panamerican Energy (PAE) as well as the Friends of Patagonia Association
Also present were the general director of Environmental Management, Ana Marino; the member of the Institutional Relations team of Panamerican Energy, Delfina González Seijas; the representatives of the Friends of Patagonia Association, Stephie Kennard and Julieta Genovesi; as well as the Program coordinators, Mariana Valles, Jaqueline Beltrán and Carolina Humphreys.
Commitment to the environment
At the beginning of the meeting, the head of the Provincial environmental portfolio welcomed the new promoters, highlighting the role they will play since “Chubut has a long history in relation to environmental preservation, and the work that developed from this program in each of the locations is extremely important, so not only was it decided to give it continuity, but it was also decided to strengthen it.”
In this sense, Rivera mentioned that “the environmental reality of the province is very diverse, and the presence of promoters with their local vision to make their diagnoses and their work plans to develop the coming months is a very important tool for the Secretariat. and for the management of the environment carried out by the Provincial Government.”
Finally, the official thanked the support of “Panamerican Energy through the Friends of Patagonia Association and the community leaders who are present, since without their commitment the Program could not be carried out.”
Program Features
The Environmental Promoters Program began in 2011 with the objective of strengthening the environmental management of localities and communes in the interior of the province with the implementation of management, education and communication projects that promote better environmental practices to respond to problems. of the place.
The selected promoters will receive, over the course of twelve months, training and permanent support from the Secretary of the Environment, a monthly scholarship and support in the assembly and execution of their projects.
Different locations
As already mentioned, for the 2024/2025 period, promoters were selected for the towns of Aldea Apeleg, Aldea Beleiro, Aldea Epulef, Rio Senguer, Aldea Viglione, Buen Pasto, Cerro Centinela, Chacay Oeste, Colan Conhué, Cushamen, Dique Ameghino, Epuyén, Facundo, Gan Gan, Gastre, Lago Blanco, Las Plumas, Lagunita Salada, Paso del Sapo, Río Pico and Sarmiento.
As a result of the Program, in some cases municipal environmental areas have been created, cleaner public spaces have been achieved, waste disposal has been ordered, work has been done on energy efficiency, water management and care for the environment in general. building communities that are more friendly to their environment, the developer becoming a true reference for its neighbors.
