Authorities and delegations that participated in the meeting of governors for climate and forests, GCF Task Force, said goodbye to Santa Cruz after a tour of three tourist areas of the metropolitan region. On their last day in Santa Cruz they visited the historic center of the city, El Torno and Porongo.

Ana Patricia Suárez, Secretary of Sustainable Development and Environment of the Government, indicated that after almost a week of hard work at the GCF, the participating authorities enjoyed a relaxed day.

To the meeting of governors 300 people from 11 countries attended. We worked on technical tables to analyze the reality, needs and threats suffered by the population due to the impact of climate change. Mechanisms were also designed to minimize the effects of this climate change and move towards sustainable development, ecological balance and environmental protection.

2 field visits were organized so that the governors and delegations could learn about the natural beauty and potential of Santa Cruz. Porongo, was one of the chosen tourist routes, an important place where important pockets of water are preserved.

“This field visit has been very nice. The hospitality that characterizes us as Santa Cruz residents is pleasant, which is why visitors return to their countries very happy and satisfied. We appreciate the warmth of the mayor of Porongo, Neftalí Mendoza, his entire team and population, for welcoming us with open arms,” said Suárez.

In Porongo, the governors and participants of the GCF learned about Santa Cruz culture and crafts.

For his part, Jason Gray, global representative of the GCF organization, highlighted the results of the meeting. “We had exchanges of ideas to see how the governorates can access international financing, so that communities can have more support. It is not easy, but this meeting helps us co-design a route to achieve it,” Gray added.

He thanked the people of Santa Cruz for their affection with the hope of returning soon.
