This Saturday the country was shocked by the murder of three police officers after an ambush in the commune of Cañete, Biobío region. The uniformed men suffered an attack by unknown persons in the Quilaco sector, Antiquina.
Police information corroborated that the 1st Sergeant lost his life in this attack. Carlos Cisterna NavarroCorporal 1st Sergio Arevalo Lobos and Cape 1st Misael Vidal Cidfor which national mourning was declared and different authorities have spoken out on the matter.
The former President Michelle Bachelet He also spoke out and expressed his condolences with the families of the affected officials. Through a press release, the former president stated:
“I want to express my deepest condolences to the Carabineros and to the families and loved ones of the 3 members of the institution who lost their lives in the criminal attack in Cañete,” he said through the networks of his Horizonte Ciudadano Foundation.
“This act of violence deeply affects us all. I reaffirm my commitment to the work of Carabineros for the protection and safety of all Chileans. Their service is essential and we must value it and always protect it,” concluded Bachelet.
For his part, President Gabriel Boric also noted: “With deep pain, heartbreak, and also, with a lot of conviction and decision“We want to offer our most sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of First Sergeant Carlos Cisterna, First Corporal Sergio Arévalo, and First Corporal Misael Vidal.”
