After an outbreak of this disease, which began on November 26, 2023 and extended until January 27, 2024, in which 920 positive cases were reported and the province was found in an alert zone according to the salmonella endemic corridor, today they decreased.

As of January 28, the numbers have shown a downward trend in each epidemiological week, reaching considerably low levels today.

According to the epidemic index, which is understood as the ratio between the cases presented in the corresponding week and the cases that are expected or predicted for the same week, Salta currently has a low incidence of cases, which means that there are fewer positive cases. than expected.

The general director of Epidemiological Coordination, Francisco Garcia, explained that “the data collected, every four SEs, indicate that the current incidence of salmonellosis is low and that the reported cases are lower than expected, compared to the statistics of previous years for the summer period. “This significant decrease in the prevalence of the disease is cause for optimism for the public health of our province.”

He added that, until EW 15, “374 positive cases were reported, of which 304 have been registered in the first four EW of 2024 when we were in the alert zone, which represents 81.3% of the total cases.”

Compared to 2023, in the first 15 SE of that year, 492 positive cases were registered, while in 2024 there were 374. The difference is 118 patients, in the same period, between one year and the next.

The official highlighted that in January the peak of cases was reduced and that it was previously reached at the beginning of March. “The decrease is related to the actions that were carried out in December 2023, on the Arenales River and in the control of some farms in the area that used untreated water, which was contaminated with fecal matter, to irrigate crops.”
