Moscow, April 28 (Sputnik).- The president of Chile, Gabriel Boric, ordered on Saturday that a curfew be imposed in several communes in the Biobío region (southern), after the murder of three police officers.
“After speaking with the General Director of the Carabineros, the Commanders in Chief of the Armed Forces, the Chief of National Defense and the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, having also evaluated the different alternatives and taking into account the needs of the ongoing investigation , I have instructed to decree a curfew in the communes of Cañete, Contulmo and Tirúa between 00:00 and 7:00 a.m.,” Boric published on the social network Twitter.
The president added that “in addition, the police and military presence will be reinforced to our maximum capacity through joint patrols in the area” and promised that “the criminals will answer to Chile and justice.”
The National Defense Headquarters for the provinces of Arauco and Biobío confirmed that it has already “established a total curfew for the communes of Cañete, Contulmo and Tirúa, starting this Sunday, April 28, between 00:00 and 07:00 and until further notice.
Pedestrian and vehicular traffic will be strictly prohibited during this time. Personnel from emergency services, health care, police, military, municipal, regional and other public services will be exempt from this prohibition.
Earlier, Boric decreed three days of national mourning for the victims of the murder that shook all of Chile.
On Saturday, the charred bodies of three carabineros (militarized police) were found in a truck in the Bíobío region. The three police officers, after receiving a false call for help, went to a road where they were murdered. (Sputnik)
