Deficiencies in the PAE affect 328 thousand students in Nariño, Huila, Cundinamarca and Córdoba

Continuing with the rigorous supervision process of the School Feeding Program (PAE), the Comptroller General of the Republic, led by Carlos Mario Zuluaga, established that educational institutions in the departments of Nariño, Huila, Cundinamarca and Córdoba, 328 thousand students are being affected by the poor provision of the school feeding service.

During these visits, 34 educational institutions were verified in real time and randomly, 8 in the department of Nariño; 2 in Pasto, 4 in Ipiales and 2 in Túquerres.

Likewise 5 in Amazonas; 4 in Leticia and 1 in Puerto Nariño; 7 in Huila – ETC Neiva and ETC Pitalito (2 in Garzón, 2 in Pitalito and 3 in Neiva; 4 in Cundinamarca – ETC Girardot and 10 in Córdoba; 2 in Montería, 3 in Lorica and 5 in San Andrés de Sotavento, with the in order to monitor the execution and compliance with the guidelines of the School Feeding Program (PAE).

The results yielded several fundamental conclusions that deserve the attention of the competent authorities and society in general.

Affectation in the provision of the school feeding service with respect to the beginning of the school calendar, with significant impact on a large number of students in the departments of Nariño, Huila, Cundinamarca and Córdoba. According to the data provided, it is estimated that 328,690 students have been affected by this situation in these regions.

Deficiencies in physical infrastructure: deficiencies were observed in the kitchens and dining rooms of 20 institutions – which is equivalent to 60% of the visits -, including counters in poor condition or non-existence, lack of spaces for storage and preservation of food, inadequate ventilation of the kitchen, ceilings with water leaks, lack of equipment and kitchenware, among others.

Non-compliance in food conservation: in 11 Institutions – which is equivalent to 32% of visits – some vegetables and fruits are in poor condition, with physical alteration in their appearance or beginning of the decomposition process. They do not meet the appropriate storage (refrigeration) temperatures.

Supply of rations without adequate measurement mechanisms: in 12 Institutions – equivalent to 35% of visits – the supply of rations lacks a measurement mechanism that allows establishing the weight of the food, according to the levels of schooling, as required by the program guidelines.
