John Fredy Gil, councilor of Jamundí, Valle del Cauca, was shot dead on the afternoon of Saturday, April 27, while he was in a food establishment located in the Alfaguara roundabout.

According to the information collectedthe Jamundí lobbyist was attacked by men traveling on motorcycles and, although he was immediately taken to a medical center, the doctors were unable to save his life.

Faced with this fact, the local authorities did not take long to speak out, rejecting the crime and asking the national government to review the situation, since it is the third murder of a councilor in the department of Valle del Cauca so far this year.

“We repudiate the murder of councilor Jhon Gil of the @MovimientoMAIS party. This is a cowardly act that attacks democracy and our institutions. I ask the national authorities for all their support so that this fact does not go unpunished,” said the municipal Administration through its account on X.
For its part, Governor Dilian Francisca Toro asked the president “Petro and Mindefensa to, using their constitutional and legal powers, increase and intensify the fight against crime in Valle del Cauca.”

“We cannot continue to regret murders without forcefully intervening in the rural area of ​​Jamundí and a comprehensive security plan for the Pacific in which I am willing to continue working tirelessly,” Toro wrote on the social network mentioned above.

To find the whereabouts of those responsible for the murder of Jhon Gil, councilor of Jamundí for the Alternative Indigenous and Social Movement (MAIS), Regional authorities offered a reward of $30 million pesos.

“Any information is valid and if this information is true, the reward will be given. “That’s what I ask of the community,” expressed Dilian Francisca Toro.

After a security council and the call to the national government, Valley authorities also defined other measures: send a request to the National Protection Unit for the care of councilors; The Prosecutor’s Office will assign a group of special investigators from Bogotá to carry out the investigations into the events in Jamundí and Tuluá and mixed Police and Army controls will be increased in these municipalities.
