To celebrate the International Dance Daythis Monday the 29th there will be an open-air expression day, from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., 3 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., and from 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.in five corners of the city of Córdoba, under the slogan: Now Dance!!

The dance will unite the centers of the Media Legua de Oro Cultural: Teatro del Libertador General San Martín, Paseo del Buen Pastor, Evita Palacio Ferreyra Museum, Emilio Caraffa Museum and City of Arts. On each corner a different discipline will be represented: Vélez Sarsfield and Duarte Quirós (Classical), Hipólito Yrigoyen and San Luis (Argentine Folklore), Hipólito Yrigoyen and Larrañaga (Flamenco), Poeta Lugones avenue and Plaza España roundabout (Tango), and Concepción Arenales corner Wenceslao Paunero (Contemporary).

What are the five corners and what will be danced in each one?

The dancers Brenda Vera and Belén Riha will perform Classical dance performances, on the corner of Vélez Sarsfield and Duarte Quirós. Trained at the Nora Irinova Classical Dance Seminar at the Teatro del Libertador San Martín, they are two outstanding artists in this discipline. Sebastián Magarzo, director, and Lautaro Magarzo, choreographer, head the Orígenes Dance School.

A company of more than 20 members will provide passages of Argentine Folklore, in Hipólito Yrigoyen corner of San Luis. The school is dedicated to the study and practice of traditional Argentine dances. At the same time, the dancer Montse González Morales, founder along with Carlota Pizarro of Vaya Alboroto, will dedicate herself to Flamenco in Hipólito Yrigoyen and Larrañaga. The artist heads a dance company of about 30 dancers who this day pay tribute to the characteristic dance of southern Spain.

The couple formed by Micaela Quinteros and Eric Heredia will dance Tango on the corner of Poeta Lugones and Plaza España roundabout. With training in Dance and Performing Arts at the Provincial University of Córdoba, Micaela and Eric are members of the Municipal Ballet of the City of Córdoba.

The Provincial University of Córdoba will participate in the celebration, through interventions by the Bachelor’s Degree in Choreographic Composition, the University Dance Faculty and the Dance Cast and interdisciplinary practices, with Contemporary Dance paintings, precisely, in Concepción Arenales corner Wenceslao Paunero.

Why is it celebrated on April 29

International Dance Day was instituted in tribute to the Letters about dances and ballets, first treatise on classical dance published in the 18th century by the ballet teacher and dancer Jean Georges Noverre. UNESCO established this day in 1982 to remember the birth of Noverre.

Córdoba has a large number of demonstrations and dance companies representative of different disciplines, which will be reflected in this event. It has a long tradition in folk dances, no less important is the practice of tango and flamenco, in addition, it is a pioneer in Contemporary Dance at the national level, it has an Official Ballet of the Province and its Nora Irinova Dance Seminar.

In terms of teaching, the PLrovincial University of Córdoba offers Dance Teaching, a Bachelor’s Degree in Choreographic Composition and a Technician’s Degree in Contemporary Dance.

Return of the Official Ballet

In its daily barre, center, and rehearsal practices, the Official Ballet of the Province is preparing to bring two pieces to the stage:

Seasons of Love: choreography by José Luis Lozano -Argentine dancer and choreographer who directed the company-, and music by Andrés Risso, and Walpurgis Night, a choreography by Leonid Lavrosky -Russian dancer and choreographer-, and music by Charles Gounod.

The choreographic revival is in charge of teacher Silvina Pino and teachers Alexander Ananiev and Jairo Benítez.

Programmed functions:
