One of the novelties that opted for mystery at the Beijing Show was carried out by Omoda. The Chery Group firm presented its projections at the exhibition held in the Chinese capital, where it commented that its next premiere would be unveiled days later in Wuhu, the town where it has its main facilities.
The announcement of the president of Omoda, the first Chery group brand to be marketed in Europe, was confirmed in an extensive ceremony that brought together thousands of guests, with dealers from different markets and press from different countries. In that environment, in which he prioritized cutting-edge technology, The Omoda 7, the second vehicle of the young Chinese brand, was officially unveiled. after the Omoda C5 and its electric version E5.
The new Omoda 7 – or C7 as it would be called in Chile – is an SUV that is installed on the C5. Later, the brand will add the Omoda 3 as an entry crossover.
By style and design, it is defined as an SUV that is based on three pillars: dynamic, avant-garde and futuristic.
Outside, the first thing that catches your attention is a Pronounced nose and edgeless parametric grille, an element that has spread among SUVs of different brands. Then, soft lines that mix with some ribs on the hood give it the personal stamp. Additionally, as a detail, in the corners of the front mask you can see some hexagonal design figures that should light up.
On the side, you can see 20” two-tone alloy wheels and traditional door handles and non-flush door handles as is also being a general trend.
Another important detail is the slight drop of the coupe-type roof with a rising window style that leaves the sensation of a floating roof, bringing the figure closer to what we see in the Omoda 5
At the rear, the rear lights have a design that they call electric power, with connected arrows that form a lightning bolt.
In terms of dimensions, the older brother of the C5 measures 4,621 mm long (+221 mm than the C5), 1,872 mm wide (+42 mm) and 1,673 mm high (+85 mm), with a wheelbase of 2,700 (+70mm).
Inside, The new Omoda 7 takes elements from gaming culture, What’s more, its presentation was based on that trend, with a steering wheel inspired by the controls of a PlayStation 5, to which is added that the front seats received ideas from the seats to play.
Regarding connectivity, The central touch screen is 15.6”, which can slide to be placed in front of the co-pilot and thus avoid distractions for the driver. This smart screen that the brand calls space orbit can be controlled using gestures, voice and buttons. It also has an 8” Head Up Display.
For greater comfort, at the presentation of the model it was specified that it will incorporate three types of air freshener fragrances and a Sony audio system with 12+2 speakers, including a pair inside the driver’s headrest. Now, if you want to reduce the noise, you will have an engine noise cancellation system.
The new Omoda 7 debuted as a plug-in hybrid (PHEV), a version that will later be complemented by an internal combustion (ICE) variant. Unlike the C5, an electric variant was not announced.
The Omoda 7 PHEV is powered by a 1.5-liter turbo TGDi engine (named H4j15), the same one that the C5 has in its entry options. From what they indicated, it is a motor with a high thermal efficiency of 44.4%, the highest in the world on the matter.
This block generates 154 Hp and 220 Nm and is associated with an electrical block that should add about 200 HP, if a figure similar to other models in the group is maintained.
With said powertrain it is capable of traveling 95 km in electric mode and reaching up to 1,250 km of autonomy with both engines, thanks to a performance close to 20 km/l.
Regarding safety, according to the firm’s top executives, it has 18 driving aids, highlighting a new lane change assistance function that is activated by voice.
The arrival of the Omoda 7 to Chile is expected in 2025.
