In the context of the 165th anniversary of the war episode of the constituent revolution of 1859, the Academy of Historical Recreation of the Municipal Education Department of La Serena organized, together with neighbors and groups of regional and national reenactors, the fourth edition of the commemoration of the combat between the supporters of the Government of Manuel Montt and the revolutionaries of Copiapó, led by the mining businessman, Pedro León Gallo.
The Historical Recreation Academy, made up of students, history teachers, parents and expert collaborators, such as the local organizations “Hermandad del Grifo” and “Parque Mirador Batalla de Los Loros”, is part of the strategies promoted by the Department of Education of the Gabriel González Videla Municipal Corporation, to strengthen the participation and attendance of students in educational establishments with alternative activities to traditional ones and outside the classroom.
About the work and new presentations, Jorge Godoy, in charge of the Academy, comments. “It makes us very happy to be able to see the result of the recreations from the hands of our students and workshop teachers, who are in charge of imparting the necessary knowledge so that all these recreations are as successful as possible. In the future there will be new recreations, new presentations, as always of the quality that we are used to, delivering a beautiful, beautiful show full of history and recreation for everyone who wants to attend.”
Along with the pedagogical content, military and period uniforms, cannons, shotguns and sabers parade, accompanied by sound effects and pyrotechnics that nourish the imagination of spectators and are part of the theatricalization developed by the students of the Gregorio Cordovez and Gabriela Mistral High Schools. and Germán Riesco, Héroes de La Concepción and Javiera Carrera schools, in each presentation they make during the year.
Allan Pérez, monitor of the recreation academy and president of the Parque Mirador Batalla de Los Loros organization, highlights the work of the academy, the relationship with the territories and rescue of local memory. “It was a very rewarding activity. Not only do we represent a historical event, we are also generating ties between the community of the sector and with people who come from different parts of the country. Then a network of friendship, growth, and joint work is generated to carry out this beautiful event that commemorates this historical fact and that rescues part of the unknown identity of our commune.”
Another objective of the recreation academy of the Department of Education of the Municipal Corporation of La Serena is also to encourage students’ interest in local history through direct participation in events, as well as the connection with the territories.
