The Dr. Arturo Oñativia hospital will expand this month the hours for treatments with hyperbaric oxygenation, in order to cover more patients who require this therapy due to endocrinometabolic pathologies, such as diabetes, hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, etc.

Currently, the hospital’s hyperbaric chamber operates from Monday to Friday, from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m., which means five patients per day, since each session lasts approximately one hour.

The general manager, Marcelo Nallar, commented that the project to expand hours seeks to triple the number of patients currently treated per day. “Four years ago we launched the hyperbaric chamber and obtained pleasant results, now we want more patients to access this treatment, tripling the number of sessions per day,” he said. He also stated that in mid-May the new time slot could be available, which will be extended to the evening shift to offer a greater number of sessions per day.

The hyperbaric chamber is a pressurized cabin and is used as an alternative treatment for hospital patients requiring tissue oxygenation. It is a non-invasive therapy, based on obtaining high partial pressures of pure oxygen in the body. Depending on the pathology, some need more intensive treatment than others.
