Decrease in Tourist Overnight Stays in Los Lagos

The Los Lagos Region has experienced a slight decrease of 1.5% in passenger overnight stays in tourist accommodation establishments during March 2024, compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching a total of 148,492 nights. This information was revealed by the Monthly Tourist Accommodation Survey (EMAT) carried out by the regional Directorate of the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

Despite the drop in overnight stays, the sector’s financial indicators show a positive trend. The room occupancy rate reached 37.5%, although this represents a contraction of 2.70 percentage points compared to the previous year. However, revenue per available room, known as RevPAR, saw a significant increase of 12.9% in twelve months, standing at $30,214. Besides, the average daily rateor ADR, recorded an even more notable growth of 21.1%, reaching $80,497.

This increase in income could reflect a greater willingness to pay on the part of tourists visiting the region, possibly due to improvements in the quality of service or a more attractive offer of accommodation. However, the decline in overnight stays and occupancy rate suggests there could be underlying challenges, such as competition from other regions or changes in traveler preferences.
