Guatemala City, May 3 (AGN).- Work supervision and verification work does not stop in the country. This, as part of the transparency and ethics policy promoted by the government of President Bernardo Arévalo. Along these lines, the Minister of Communications, #JasmineDeLaVegatogether with the Vice Minister of Transportation, Jorge Contreras, verified the construction status of the San José Airport, Escuintla.
The above, to verify and check the quality of materials, progress of the work and functionality, among other priority aspects at a structural level.
De la Vega will make a comparison of the project contract amounts with market prices. This is to verify if the costs of the work are real or if there was an overvaluation.
De la Vega indicated in this regard:
We see a lack of comprehensive planning, because there are six contracts active and already received. The six contracts possibly started at the same time, but we see that there are companies that have not responded, and that delays the other companies.
The official showed during the supervision how the humidity has taken its toll on the recently started structure. In this sense, she stated:
If you see all the façade and all the sifting, water is entering the facilities, because the work is not of one hundred percent quality.
During her tour, the official indicated that what worries her most is the control tower. This is because in the original plan the building should have eight floors but the first and second floors have barely been built.
And he warned:
If this continues, this is going to deteriorate.
About the airport
In August 2023, authorities of the Ministry of Communications, Infrastructure and Housing (CIV) They supervised construction work at the International Cargo Airport in San José, in the department of Escuintla.
The then head of the portfolio visited the site in order to review the progress of the work and verify its correct compliance.
According to previous authorities, this project would be developed strategically in order to promote and enhance local and international trade.
Furthermore, the main function of this space is the landing of cargo aircraft and thus benefit commerce and employment.
The structure would serve to promote investment and export opportunities in the country. Especially, to receive raw materials from Asia and Europe.
Supervision
Minister de la Vega maintains constant supervision and control of works throughout the country. Since the beginning of her management, she has supervised roads, infrastructure such as bridges and the La Aurora International Airport.
As she has stated on several occasions, she found findings of corruption in contracts awarded to companies that did not comply or authorities that consented to fraudulent actions.
One of these was the failed installation of electric stands at La Aurora Airport.
