Detector: this video of the 1M marches was not recorded in Bucaramanga

The DetectBot of La Silla Vacía (+57 3102940910) arrived https://twitter.com/Mamertos0/status/1785772261548458299 from account @Mamertos0 with a video that supposedly shows what the May 1 march in Bucaramanga was like.

That same information was replicated on Facebook (here and here), so we ran the Lie Detector and found it to be misleading. The video does not show the march in Bucaramanga, but in Bogotá.

This is the trill:

The video is from 1M, but it was not recorded in Bucaramanga

A reverse search using frames from the video did not return any matches on the Internet. We repeated the search, this time with the phrase “May 1 March in Bucaramanga” and we also did not find any recording that coincided with the one we are checking.

We reviewed the clip in detail and found that several people have signs alluding to May 1. That means that recording was made that day.

However, we also found that the video does not correspond to Bucaramanga but to Bogotá.

For example, the first six seconds of the recording show the Bogotá International Center and the entrance to the Museo Nacional de Transmilenio underground station. We compare the images of the video with those of the Street View of Google Maps – which were taken in June 2023 – and we verify that it is the same place.

Then, from second seven to second 36, you can see that the protesters pass in front of the Tequendama building located on Carrera 7 and 26, in Bogotá.

At the end of the circulating video you can also see the famous Colpatria Tower in Bogotá.

That is, the video was recorded at the march on May 1, but it does not show what the demonstration was like in Bucaramanga, but in Bogotá. That is why we classify the publication as misleading.

In the past, the Lie Detector has checked the @Mamertos0 account for spreading other misinformation (1, 2, 3 and 4)
